Residence in the Columbia River Gorge. 

A home and art studio for two artists.

The goal here was balancing the incredible views offered by the site with the very real physical constraints the site imposed. It’s an incredibly windy area with about 8 inches of soil before you hit solid rock.

Per usual, small internal design team of myself and an interior designer, under direction of the studio principal.

The site instantly proved to be more challenging than anyone expected, setting the construction process up from week one to be an extremely delicate balancing act between budget, design intent, and constructability.

In the future, I would always recommend people think twice about an outdoor pool.
